Homemade Hemp Milk is one of my favorite plant-based milk alternatives. It’s creamy and has a nutty flavor but it’s nut-free. It requires two ingredients – hemp seeds and water – but I like to add dates and vanilla extract for a nice touch. It’s creamier texture is closer to milk which makes it great for smoothies, cereal or straight from the jar!

How to Make Homemade Hemp Milk

  • Blend: add hemp hearts, pitted dates, vanilla extract and water to your blender, blend on high for 2 minutes. Taste and adjust sweetness to your liking by adding one additional pitted date at a time.
  • Strain (optional): If you prefer a completely smooth milk, use a nut milk bag or cheesecloth. 

Storage

Store your homemade hemp milk in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Shake it up before using, and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw shelled hemp hearts
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 dates, pitted, optional
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract, optional
  • Pinch Himalayan salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Add hemp hears, water, pitted dates and vanilla extract to a high-speed blender. Blend on high for 2 minutes, until smooth and incorporated.
  2. Taste flavor and adjust as needed. Add 1 or 2 additional pitted dates for sweetness.
  3. Optional: strain the mixture using a nut-bag or cheesecloth for a creamier texture.
  4. Pour mixture in a sealed glass container and refrigerate until ready to use.
